Sponge dissection
The Sponge wasn't very interesting. It was very simple, so it helped me get an idea of simple organisms. I observed the pores inside the sponge. They are in the phylum porifera and are only made up of cells. There is more about the sponge in the phyla paragraphs below.
Jellyfish Dissection
The purpose of this lab was to observe the advancement in complexity of the Phylum Cnidaria compared to the phylum Porifera.I really liked looking at the jellyfish and thought it was very interesting. I observed the tissues that the jellyfish are made up of. It was more interesting than the sponge since they are made up of tissues instead of cells. There is more about Cnidarians below.
Squid Dissection
The squid was much more complex compared to the jellyfish. It has organs and a pen running down its back as the start of a backbone. I really liked the squid since it was new to me . Squid are a part of the phylum mollusca and were the first phylum to evolve gills. There is more about them below.
Worm dissection
The earthworm was very hard to see, but i learned a lot. Earthworms are a part of the phylum annelida and have a full organ system. I found it very interesting because they were the first to have segmented bodies. There is more information on the earthworm below.
Grasshopper Dissection
The grasshopper was creepy, but I also found it very interesting. They are a part of the phylum arthropoda and are the first to have an exoskeleton. They also have segmented bodies like earthworm does. They are much more advanced compared to the past organisms. There is more information in the paragraphs below.
Perch Dissection
The perch is much more advanced than they other phyla we studied. It has bone instead of cartilage and a plate to protect its gills. It is a part of the phylum chordata and has a full organ system. The perch was very interesting and there is more information about the perch below.
Frog Dissection
The frog, like the perch, is very advanced. It is also a part of the phylum chordata and has a full organ system. Frogs, unlike the perch, are able to go onto land, since they evolved lungs along with gills. I really enjoyed looking at the frog and you can read more about it in the paragraphs below.
